Lori offers classes and workshops based upon her fresh and creative designs.  Please inquire for more information on scheduling Lori to speak or teach at your shop, group, show or quild.  Additional information is available at the bottom of the page.


Trunk Show – Inspired by Tradition

1 Hour

In this trunk show, Lori shares her quilting journey from family heirlooms to her original, published designs.  Rooted in tradition, Lori designs bright and playful quilts for today’s quilters.  Learn about her creative process and design inspirations.  Let Lori inspire you as she travels through her quilting journey and stitching experiences!

6 Hour Class

Arcs in gradated colors overlap to create a central statement and playful movement in the negative space of this stunning quilt.  Clever templates create the overlapping curves.  Skill builder: Curved piecing with templates. This class will focus on creating the center motif blocks with curved piecing.

Cookie Cat

6 Hour Class

Make this cute and scrappy kitty quilt, charm square friendly, for the feline lover in your family in a cute baby size.  Large blocks and simple assembly make this a great beginner or quick advanced project.  Named after Lori’s own sweet kitty, Cookie, the design is so versatile.  Make it twin sized or just  make a pillow.

Viewfinders Eyeglass Case

3 Hour Class

Make this cute eyeglass case with easy foundation paper piecing on the flap.  Use your scraps or fussy cut in the little geese for a cute statement.  A fun gift to make and practical to use, why not whip up several?  Skill Builders: Beginner foundation paper piecing and making bias binding.

Clockwise Pillow

3 Hour class

With a color wheel for inspiration, this striking pillow will point you in the right direction.  Easy to piece arrows are highlighted with spiral quilting for a design to freshen up any décor.  Made with a rainbow of solid colors and a background of assorted low volume gray prints. Fat quarter friendly.  This pillow cover finishes at 20” x 20”.   Skillbuilders: Making a pillow envelope back and learning how to spiral quilt with a walking foot and guide.

Modern Concepts: Intro to Walking foot quilting

3 hour class

Walking foot and straight line quilting can provide a clean, modern feel to a quilt design.  Join Lori for a Mini Trunk show of her quilts showcasing this modern technique and then grab your machine and walking foot for some hands on stitching.  We will explore marking tools, channel, matchstick, organic line, spiral quilting and more.  In this class you will try a variety of walking foot techniques.  Bring your walking foot with guide for this class.

Pinwheel Pincushion

3 Hour Class

In this class you will make a useful and fun pincushion.  Using precut 2 ½” squares in bright colors, you can whip up these spinning pinwheels in no time.  Add a fun vintage button and you have a dazzling gift for a stitching friend or keep it for yourself.  Perfect for beginners or advanced quilters looking for a fun quick project.  The pincushion finishes at 4 3/4” x 4 3/4” x 1”. Skill Builder: Learn how to sew a partial seam, use a whip stitch and stuff a pincushion.

EQ8 Classes

Lori is an Electric Quilt Superfan and she teaches confidence building classes geared for the beginner.  Using EQ for her quilt designs, she has a quilters perspective of the software.  You can also find Lessons with Lori on the blog and find free tutorials on the tab above.  The Beginner and Advanced Beginner classes can be taught as a 2 day workshop.

EQ8 Beginner

6 Hour class

Are you new to EQ8? Have you owned earlier versions but just didn’t use the software? Do you just need a good refresher?  This class is perfect for beginner EQ8 users who want to build confidence and leave with a good understanding of the Electric Quilt tools.

This beginner class includes a tour of workspace and then we will start designing.  We will cover the Quilt Worktable, design horizontal, on-point, and strip quilts, learn how to print fabric yardage, templates, rotary cutting directions and foundation patterns.  We will use the block and fabric libraries and search for blocks and fabrics.  You will develop a better understanding of the three worktables, the Project Sketchbook and how to navigate the workspace to design your own beautiful quilts.

EQ8 Advanced Beginner

Prerequisite:  You must have completed the EQ8 Beginner Class to enroll in this class.

6 Hour class

Once you have completed the beginner class, you will be ready for the advanced beginner class to continue to build on your new skills.  In this class, we will have a quick refresher and then dive into using the Block and Image Worktables.  We will draw and edit quilt blocks and import a fabric scan and scale, crop and edit it to use in a quilt.  We will explore applique and understand the EQ8 3 layers of the quilt.  We take a deep dive into borders and auto borders.  We will continue to design quilts and blocks throughout the class to reinforce what you are learning.  By the end of the class, you will have the confidence to design your own beautiful blocks and quilts.

EQ8 Skillbuilders: Creating Quilt Labels

Skillset: Advanced

2 1/2 Hours

Every quilt needs a label!  In this skillbuilder class, we will use the EQ8 software to create quilt labels to print on printable fabric.  We will learn about the various printable fabrics and EQ Printables.  Then we will design quilt labels and learn how to add multiple labels for printing.  Learn how to add text lettering and embellish your label.  We will also edit predesigned label designs that come with EQ8.  Please note: to print on Printable fabric, you must have an inkjet printer.  This class is a design class only, we will NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A PRINTER.

EQ8 Skillbuilders: Create a Panel Quilt

Skillset: Advanced

2 1/2 Hours

In this skill builder class, we will design a panel quilt.  There are so many cute panels available for quilts and we will show how to pull one into EQ8 to design around.  We will use borders in creative ways to compliment the design.  We will discuss how to get a picture of your panel into the software and how to edit and crop a photo of a panel.  I will point out helpful hints and share other built in EQ8 tools to add to your skills.

EQ8 Skillbuilders: Advanced EasyDraw – New York Beauty

Skillset: Advanced

2 1/2 Hours

In this skill builder class, we will explore more of the advanced features of easy draw by designing a custom New York Beauty block.  We will learn how to create a foundation pattern to stitch it up.  We will make several variations of the block, design some beautiful quilts and discover what the Symmetry tool can do.

 EQ8 Skillbuilders: Create a Custom Quilt

Skillset: Advanced

2 1/2 Hours

In this skill builder class, we will learn how to create a custom quilt, how to create your own quilt layout, and explore the predesigned layouts provided by EQ8.  We will also explore how to create a custom quilt from a block.

EQ8 Skillbuilders: Designing Modern Quilts with Alternate Grids

Skillset: Advanced

You must have a copy of the EQ8 Designing More Quilts book

2 1/2 Hours

In this skill builder class, we will explore how to use the tools provided in EQ8 to create stunning modern style quilts.  We will discover  alternate grid work, asymmetry, exaggerated scale, negative space, minimalism and almost no borders.  We will also visit the Irregular quilt grid layouts included with EQ8. custom .  You will discover whole new ways to build creative, fresh and modern quilt designs.


The best way to learn is by doing.  This is a HANDS ON class and students must bring their own laptop with a current version of EQ8.

EQ8 Teaching Requirements

  • Large screen with projector that will hookup to teacher’s laptop for display so that students can follow along.
  • Internet connectivity be available for all students.
  • Access to electric power for students and teachers laptops and equipment.

Scheduling  Information

  • Check the lecture and workshop list to find the classes you are interested in.
  • Please provide your name, organization and phone number, your proposed event date and location, and your requested lecture, class or workshop.
  • For Quilt Guild classes, Lori requests a total of 6 hours of classroom time for booking, you can mix and match 3 hour sessions as desired.
  • Classes have a maximum of 20 students unless otherwise stated.
  • Lori requests that a table be provided for her to sell additional patterns and supplies.
  • Lori expects reasonable travel expenses to be reimbursed.  This includes mileage if by car(based on current federal rate), airfare, transportation, hotel, ground transportation, meals and shipping if applicable.
  • A signed contract will reserve your event date.
